Our Thesis
The Problem
Research suggests that 50–60% of India's urban adult population experiences mild to moderate mental health concerns — stress, anxiety, low mood, emotional exhaustion. These aren't clinical conditions requiring diagnosis or medication. They're solvable by having someone to talk to, and guided self-work.
Yet almost no one gets that support. In our research, only about 6% had tried therapy, and roughly a third had tried any AI-based solution. The remaining majority cope entirely alone.
Why?
- Therapy feels like "too much." It's expensive, time-consuming, and carries stigma. For someone dealing with everyday stress, booking a therapist feels like an overreaction.
- Self-help feels generic. Meditation apps and self-help books offer techniques but not understanding. They don't listen, they don't remember, and they don't adapt.
- The people in their lives aren't always available. Friends are busy. Family is judgmental. Partners are part of the problem. And at 2 AM, no one picks up.
- AI alternatives lack trust. The few AI-based solutions that exist haven't been clinically validated or built with the privacy safeguards that sensitive emotional conversations demand.
There's nothing between "dealing with it alone" and "going to a therapist." That gap is where most people live — and where Kaho comes in.
Our Approach
Our vision is to make the world a lighter place — by making emotional support as accessible as a conversation.
Kaho is an AI companion that listens, understands, and helps people make sense of what they're feeling — one conversation at a time.
Why conversation? Every form of emotional support starts the same way: someone talks, someone listens. The act of putting feelings into words — naming what you're experiencing — is itself therapeutic. Research shows that labeling an emotion reduces its intensity. Kaho is built around this insight.
How it works
Beyond conversation, Kaho offers journaling prompts to help you unpack what you're carrying, and breathing and grounding exercises to help you reset in moments of acute stress.
Built for the Indian context
Kaho understands the emotional realities of urban India — the pressure of competitive careers, family expectations, relationship dynamics, and the cultural nuances around expressing vulnerability. It's not a Western wellness product adapted for India. It's built here, for the people who live here.
Clinically validated
Kaho's conversational quality is validated by RCI-certified clinical psychologists across a range of scenarios — from everyday stress to more complex emotional patterns. We continuously evaluate response quality, safety, and appropriateness. Kaho knows its limits: when a conversation indicates a need for professional help, it proactively guides you there.
Why we believe this works: Most people who seek no help aren't choosing to suffer. They're choosing between options that don't fit. Therapy is a 60-minute commitment at a fixed time for a significant cost. Kaho is available for 5 minutes or 50, at 2 PM or 2 AM, at a fraction of the cost. And consistency matters more than intensity — a short conversation every day builds more resilience than one deep session a month.
How It Helps
Feeling lighter
You come carrying mental weight. You talk it out. Kaho listens, asks the right questions, helps you name what you're feeling. The weight doesn't disappear — but it gets lighter once it's seen and named.
Building awareness
You show up regularly — short check-ins, occasional longer conversations. Kaho remembers. Patterns start emerging: a recurring stressor, a thought loop, a relationship dynamic you hadn't noticed.
Understanding yourself
You start seeing your own emotional landscape. What triggers you, what drains you, what helps. The conversations shift from venting to reflection. You're not just coping — you're learning.
A steady anchor
Kaho becomes the place you go to think out loud, process a hard day, or check in with yourself. Not every day. Not on a schedule. When you need it.
Who This Is For
-
You had a rough day and need to talk it out — but it's midnight and no one's awake.
-
You're burning out at work and can't tell if it's the job or something deeper.
-
You're stuck in a relationship pattern you can't see clearly from the inside.
-
You feel low more often than you'd like, but not enough to book a therapist.
-
You tried meditation apps and self-help, but nothing stuck because none of it felt personal.
-
You want to understand yourself better — your triggers, your patterns, your emotional habits.
-
You're not looking for a diagnosis. You're looking to be heard.
What Kaho Is Not
Not a therapist. Kaho does not diagnose, prescribe, or replace professional mental healthcare. If you need clinical intervention, Kaho will guide you toward professional help.
Not a crisis helpline. If you are in immediate danger, please reach out to a professional crisis service.
Not a replacement for human connection. Kaho is a complement to your support system — not a substitute for friends, family, or professional care.
What Kaho is: A private, judgment-free space for the everyday emotional moments that don't need a therapist but still deserve attention.
