Kaho is a mental well-being companion application built by Vernant Technologies Private Limited, a company incorporated under the laws of India. Kaho provides AI-powered emotional support through conversation, guided journaling, and mindfulness exercises.

Kaho deals with deeply personal conversations, and protecting that information is a core responsibility. Every technical and design decision in Kaho is made with privacy and safety as a non-negotiable priority.

This Privacy Policy explains how information is collected, used, and protected when you use the Kaho application. By using Kaho, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

How Your Data Is Used

The data you share with Kaho is used to:

• Provide personalized AI-powered emotional support and conversational responses.
• Generate contextual, relevant journal prompts based on your reflections and mood.
• Track your wellness journey, including mood trends and engagement streaks.
• Send relevant notifications and daily check-in reminders.
• Improve the quality and safety of the service using anonymized, de-identified data.
• Diagnose and fix technical issues to improve app performance.

What We Share

Your personal data and conversations are never sold or shared for advertising or marketing purposes.

• Infrastructure Partners: We work with select technology providers for hosting and AI capabilities. These providers operate under contractual obligations that prevent them from using your data independently.
• AI Processing: Your messages are processed by AI language models to generate responses. This processing happens in real-time.
• Voice Data: If you choose to interact with Kaho using voice, no audio recordings are ever stored. Voice input is processed entirely in real-time to serve your request, and the audio data is immediately discarded once the response is generated. Only the resulting text transcript may be retained as part of your conversation history — never the audio itself.
• Legal Obligations: We may disclose information where required by applicable Indian law, such as in response to a valid court order or to prevent harm.

Encryption & Security

• Encryption: All conversations and sensitive data are encrypted both in transit (when being sent between your device and our servers) and at rest (when stored in our database), ensuring they remain protected at every stage.
• Security Practices: We maintain robust security controls including access restrictions, monitoring, and regular review of our security posture.
• Privacy by Design: Your identified conversation data is never exposed to human reviewers. Any analysis for service improvement is performed only on fully anonymized datasets with all personal identifiers removed.

Data Anonymization

When data is used to improve the quality and safety of Kaho, rigorous anonymization is applied:

• All personally identifiable information (PII) is automatically detected and stripped out before any data is used for service improvement.
• Only de-identified, aggregate insights are used to make Kaho better — your individual identity is never part of that process.

Your Rights & Control

You are in control of your data. You have the right to:

• Access the personal data held about you.
• Delete your account and all associated personal data.
• Withdraw Consent at any time by discontinuing use or deleting your account.

Note: Kaho uses your conversation history to provide relevant, personalized support. Deleting this history means Kaho will no longer have that context, and subsequent conversations will not reflect anything discussed previously.

Data Retention

• Your data is retained only for as long as your account remains active and as necessary to provide the service.
• Upon account deletion, all personal data is permanently removed.
• Anonymized, de-identified data that has already been processed may be retained, as it can no longer be linked to your identity.

Age Restriction

Kaho is intended for users aged 18 years and above. We do not knowingly collect personal information from individuals under 18. If we become aware that a user is under 18, we will promptly take steps to delete their account and all associated data.
